Mirabelles (yellow plums)
- german name: Mirabellen
- swiss name: Mirabellen
- french name: Mirabelles
- italian name: Mirabella
General Information: Mirabelle are small, round members of the plum family. They range in color from golden yellow to red. They have a sweet taste, but because they lack in acid, the taste can appear flat when consumed raw.
Season: August through September
Purchasing Tips: A pale silvery-gray film looking coating on the skin is natural, and doesn’t affect the quality. They should be firm, but give slightly to palm pressure. Avoid those with skin blemishes, such as cracks, soft spots, or brown spots.
Storage: If firm, store at room temperature up to four days. Otherwise, refrigerate up to five days.
Cooking Tips: Consume raw, or use to make tarts or preserves.
